Knit Your Bit Info

Operation Knit Your Bit

For generations upon generations people have been asked to do their part to help the comfort of the Soldiers. The  "Knit Your Bit" campaign began in World War I. The campaign became a critical part of providing aid and comfort to Allied troops during the World War II. Due to wartime demands, textile producers were converted to support strategic military needs, volunteer knitters were called upon to help supply soldiers with warm clothing for harsh climates.  As a part of Operation Santa Claus we are encouraging knitters and crocheters to create a gift for our troops and continue this historic campaign. A variety of items such as slippers, hats, gloves, mittens, socks, scarves, neck warmers etc can be created for use by our troops.

Patterns can be found at a variety of locations. Such as web sites, books or even you time tested personal favourites.

Washable and dryable yarns are required.
Colours: the only exceptions are to stay away from white and pastels

So with your needles or hook in hand, create a treasured gift that WILL give our soldiers a sense of love and caring from home while they are in a far off land.
